An overview of our water testing kits for consumers

There are various ways of testing your water yourself. One option is to test your water hardness using a pH strip. There are a variety of fairly similar rapid home tests on the market, however this is an imprecise testing method. Thanks to IVARIO, you can now have your drinking water analysed in an accredited laboratory. Several questions may emerge when you look at our extensive product range, for example:

  • Why should water testing be done?
  • What does water testing cost?
  • Where can water testing be done?
  • How does a water test work?
  • What kinds of water test kits do you offer?

Why should water testing be done?

It is well known that water in the UK is of a very high standard. What many don't know however, is that the responsibility of the water companies for water quality ends at the boundary of your property. There may be metals like copper and other harmful substances lurking in the pipes and fittings of your home, which can seriously affect the quality of your drinking water. Bacteria levels and values for water hardness, pH value and substances like lead often exceed those set out in the UK Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations. Our test kits are especially popular among pregnant women, families with babies, those with weak immune systems, or anyone who wants to rule out potential risks.

What does water testing cost?

There are many methods of testing tap water and a variety of price categories. pH strips from the chemist allow you to detect the pH level of the water, for example. Rapid home tests are of course relatively cheap, however the results achieved are imprecise and lack detail. For a detailed, reliable results we recommend laboratory water testing. The IVARIO water test kits range from £34.00 to £195.00.

The water test kits vary in scope and in the number of contaminants tested for. IVARIO offer four main tap water test kits - BASIC, COMBINED, PLUS and PREMIUM - and the number of contaminants tested ranges from 8 to 50.

The BASIC Water Analysis examines your water for 8 contaminants, while the COMBINED Water Analysis, which is the best in terms of value for money, tests for sulphate and nitrite in addition to heavy metals. The Baby Test is included in the Combined Test, meaning you can test tap water which you want to use for preparing baby formula.

The Water Analysis PLUS is for anyone who loves attention to detail, as it tests 31 parameters, including "exotic" substances like arsenic.

The Water Analysis PREMIUM is the all-round, complete package and with 50 parameters tested, is one of the nation's most comprehensive water tests. It is ideal for anyone responsible for supplying drinking water, e.g. landlords, but also for anyone with a reason to think that their water might be contaminated, or for people with health problems such as a weak immune system. The samples for the PREMIUM Water Analysis are sent back with ice packs so that the colony count is not influenced by the outdoor temperature.

The Legionella Water Analysis examines your warm water sample for bacteria that can enter your lungs through steam and cause Legionnaire's disease. A legionella infections is especially dangerous for the elderly and for young children. IVARIO offers other Bacteria Test Kits too.

The Pesticide Water Analysis and the Pharmaceutical Water Analysis are new to the IVARIO product range. The contamination of drinking water by pesticides used in agriculture and pharmaceutical residue caused by consumer behaviour are topics which are frequently discussed in the media. These two tests are different from the rest because different analytical methods are used, different groups of substances are tested, and they are often purchased as a supplement to another test.
